“Congratulations! For students who wake up at 4:00 AM and walk even more than 7 Km to school, even perform some household chores like milking and feeding animals, KCSE meangrade of 6.542 is an exemplary performance. We’re very proud of you,” Murang’a governor Dr. Irungu Kang’ata.
Karega Sec school’s KCSE class of 2023 defied the odds to not only record a mean grade of 6.542 but also have 100/201 students score C+ and above. The school emerged the best day school in Murang’a County.
For the past one decade, Karega Sec has been scaling not only the heights of academic success but also in co-curricular activites.
“We had 100 students with direct university admission grades (C+ and above) as follows: 4 A-, 4 B+, 26 B, 28 B- and 38 C+. The school participates in regional Music and Drama festivals. The school’s volleball team has also played in the National Volleyball Championships,” Mr. Muiga the school principal said.
“I thank God for seeing me pass. It had been a tough battle to achieve A- with all the challenges meeting day scholars. I motivate the continuing students to also not give up striving for success. I’d talk like Lupita Nyong’o and say, ‘No matter which school you come from, your dreams are valid,” Moses Mwangi Maina inspired. He and Kelvin Mathia, James Kihoro and Paul Kamau scored an A- .
The governor promised to offer an automatic bursary for all top 50 students from across form 2-4. Dr. Kang’ata also left the students a reward of Ksh 200,000. He vowed to continue the existing county programmes supporting education. These include bursary for orphans, students living with disability, the 1st five students per school in the KCPE and now Ksh. 15,000 bursary to all students who achieved direct university admission.
“I’ve invited you to join us at Mumbi Grounds on Sunday, 13th January for the Murang’a County Bursary Awarding ceremony,” County 021 governor invited.

Kigumo MP Hon Joseph Munyoro was also in attendance. He promised that CDF will offer money to expand the computer laboratory, library and complete classes undergoing construction. He commended the students for outshining very many boarding schools.
“CDF office disbursed 2.6 M last year. We shall also disburse more this year to aid in the completion of the structures awaiting finishing touches. The CDF will also offer bursaries for all the students who gained direct university admission grades in the constituency. The bursary application process will commence from next week,” Hon. Munyoro said.
The area MCA, who comes from the school’s neighbourhood commended the performance. She even participated in the 1 Km roadshow celebration’s procession from the compound to Kigumo town.
“We’re so grateful to God that our students have continued to excel. My office will continue supporting the education sector through Kigumo Ward bursaries. I also challenge our young girls to pull up their white socks and score even grade A. Yes you can!” Hon Caroline Njoroge said.
As an alumni of the school myself, I thank God and congratulate the Karega Sec School community for posting very commendable performance. May they trend on that same path.
