Yesterday, Kigumo Technical Training College (TVC) administration kicked off a campaign to increase admission of unemployed Kigumo Sub County youths for technical and business courses.
The program shall engage KCPE and KCSE graduates (2000-2023) for courses ranging from Grades 3-6. Youths without KCPE certificates are also considered. 2024 KCSE candidates shall also be considered for short courses in January intake.

The administration engaged the local authorities (Chiefs and Assistant chiefs) in bringing together interested persons to raise awareness, conduct career guidance and register subscriptions.

The officials assured the local community to also assist in course application through KUCCPS and in application for HELB/HEF funds. The college shall also be offering transport services to the beneficiaries.

“We have been having challenges convincing form four leavers with KCSE grades below C- to get admitted for technical/business course certificate. Most get incorporated into casual jobs while others travel to urban settings in search of jobs. Others still get disillusioned and get into crime and alcohol/drugs,” Mr. Kibe Gacheru, Iriguini Sublocation Assistant chief said.
“We are happy that you have imparted local youths with wise insights on why they must get technical/business training,” he added.

The TVC was established by the Ministry of Education in 2017. It offers various diploma, craft, artisan and NITA Grade 3 certificate courses in the departments of ICT, Engineering (electrical and mechanical), Business, Hospitality and Building/Construction. Level 6/diploma courses take the longest duration of 3 years whilst the short courses take a duration of 3 weeks.

The program is a government policy to realise 100% transition policy from secondary to tertiary education. It was initiated by the Ministry of Education in the department of TVET.
